Ba Zi or 8 Characters
Your birth details (Year, Month, Day, and Hour) are converted into four distinct columns called Pillars.

Together, these 4 pillars produce 8 characters (Ba Zi). Each character belongs to one of the Five Elements (Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water) in either a Yin or Yang form.

The Earthly Branch of the Month is the most important character in your chart, as it will dictate which element is the strongest, which in turn determines whether you are strong in Yang or Yin.

The Heavenly Stem of your Day Pillar is the next most most important character in your chart, called the Day Master. It represents you — your fundamental personality, baseline traits, and core perspective. All other seven characters in the chart are analyzed in relation to your Day Master.
